21 Sec ago - ## Carry-On Up the Aisle
Logline: When a budget airline merges with a luxury cruise line, chaos ensues as clashing cultures and riotous passengers collide on a maiden voyage disguised as a sociological experiment.
Characters:
Professor Quentin Quibble: (Kenneth Williams-esque) A pompous sociologist convinced his study on class interaction will revolutionise the field. He's oblivious to the escalating mayhem around him.
Captain Cecil Chunder: (Sid James-esque) A lecherous cruise captain horrified by the influx of budget travellers and desperately trying to maintain some semblance of decorum (while eyeing the bikini-clad passengers).
Penelope Plumbottom: (Barbara Windsor-esque) A bubbly air hostess accustomed to dealing with unruly stag parties, now facing the wrath of snooty cruise regulars.
Agnes Bottomley: (Hattie Jacques-esque) A matronly, budget-conscious passenger convinced she's found a loophole to luxury travel. She hoards complimentary snacks and toiletries.
Reginald Rumbold: (Charles Hawtrey-esque) Agnes' accident-prone husband, constantly tripping over luggage and causing general pandemonium.
Percy Poshington: (Terry-Thomas-esque) A snobbish first-class passenger aghast at the "commoners" invading his exclusive domain. He carries a miniature dachshund named "Diamond."
Synopsis:
Professor Quibble convinces "FlyLo," a budget airline known for lost luggage and delayed flights, to merge with "Ocean Opulence," a luxury cruise line favoured by the upper crust. He presents it as a groundbreaking sociological experiment: observing class interaction in a confined environment. The maiden voyage, a Mediterranean cruise, becomes his living laboratory.
From the start, it’s a disaster. Agnes Bottomley packs sandwiches to avoid paying for cruise food, causing a ruckus when security confiscates her pickle jar ("It's an heirloom!"). Reginald, trying to sneak extra baggage onboard, gets tangled in the gangway, causing a domino effect of falling passengers.
Onboard, culture clash reigns supreme. Snooty Percy Poshington is horrified to find his exclusive sun deck overrun with beach towel-wielding budget travellers. Agnes, meanwhile, commandeers the jacuzzi, much to the disgust of the other passengers. Captain Chunder, distracted by Penelope’s uniform adjustments, struggles to maintain order.
Professor Quibble, oblivious to the mounting chaos, meticulously documents every awkward interaction, convinced he’s witnessing sociological gold. He even tries to organise a formal dinner, which descends into a food fight when Agnes accuses Percy’s dachshund of stealing her sausage roll.
The climax comes during a talent show. Agnes, emboldened by several glasses of complimentary wine, performs a raucous rendition of "My Old Man's a Dustman" while Reginald provides percussion with stolen cutlery. Percy, in retaliation, attempts a haughty opera performance, but Diamond the dachshund leaps onto the stage and bites his trousers, exposing his polka-dot underwear to the audience.
The cruise ends in utter pandemonium. The ship docks in the wrong port. Luggage is lost (again). Professor Quibble, amidst the chaos, declares his experiment a resounding success, having “observed the fascinating dynamics of inter-class conflict in microcosm.”
Final scene:
As the passengers disembark, looking shell-shocked, Professor Quibble approaches Captain Chunder with a proposal for a follow-up study: a backpacking trip across the Himalayas with a group of nuns and a football team. Captain Chunder faints.
Running gags:
Double entendres involving "deck," "cabin," and "port."
Reginald’s constant mishaps and Agnes' insatiable appetite.
Professor Quibble’s obliviousness to the unfolding chaos.
Captain Chunder's lecherous pursuits of Penelope.
This outline offers a framework for a classic Carry On film, capturing the spirit of farce, slapstick, and social satire. The script would need to be fleshed out with witty dialogue and visual gags, but the basic ingredients are all here.
