Alright, so I clocked out from the plant, grabbed a burger and fries, and caught that new Quiet Place flick, the "Day One" one. Gotta say, as a guy who’s spent twenty years on the assembly line, dealing with noisy machinery and the constant chatter of coworkers, the whole silent apocalypse thing… I get it. The stress of having to keep quiet, always on edge, waiting for something to go wrong – it’s a familiar feeling, just amped up to eleven.

Now, the first movie, that was about surviving. This one’s about the start of the whole mess, the chaos of it all. And let me tell you, they nailed that chaos. Reminded me of that time the conveyor belt jammed up and the foreman started yelling – pure pandemonium. Except, instead of spilled widgets, it’s… well, you know. Alien monsters.

The acting’s decent. The lady from that “Office” show, she does a good job looking terrified. The rest of the folks are believable enough, running and screaming and trying not to get chomped. It ain't Shakespeare, but it gets the job done.

One thing that bothered me, though – and this is the factory worker in me talking – is how easily some of these folks get themselves into trouble. Like, common sense goes right out the window. You see a giant sound-sensitive alien creature, you don’t bang on a metal fence, right? Basic safety procedures, people! Reminds me of newbie Dave who kept forgetting his ear protection. Kid learned his lesson eventually. These folks, not so much.

Overall, it's a good way to kill a couple of hours. Keeps you on the edge of your seat, makes you jump a few times. Not as good as the first one, maybe, but still a solid flick. Three and a half stars out of five. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a date with a six-pack and the recliner. My kind of quiet place.
