(Scene opens on a lush, green section of the Pridelands, butterflies flutter, birds sing. Mufasa, regal and majestic, surveys his kingdom. A small, nervous dung beetle, Bumble, scurries into frame, pushing an enormous ball of dung. He trips, sending the dung ball rolling towards Mufasa.)

Mufasa: (Sighs) Bumble. Again?

Bumble: (Nervously) Your Majesty! A thousand pardons! This… this was an exceptionally… fragrant… offering. For the… uh… fertilization of the royal… grass?

(The dung ball stops just short of Mufasa's paw. Mufasa eyes it with distaste.)

Mufasa: Bumble, I appreciate the sentiment, truly. But perhaps you could fertilize a… less prominent patch of grass? Preferably one downwind?

Bumble: (Wringing his tiny claws) Of course, sire! Just trying to contribute to the Circle of Life, you know? Playing my part. Though, I must confess, my navigation skills are… still developing. I'm actually aiming for Pride Rock, but I seem to have a slight… magnetic attraction to your royal personage.

Mufasa: (Raises an eyebrow) Magnetic?

Bumble: (Whispering conspiratorially) Between you and me, Your Majesty, I think Zazu might be messing with my antennae. He says it’s “air traffic control,” but I think he’s just jealous of my superior… sphere-rolling abilities.

(Zazu swoops down, indignant.)

Zazu: Preposterous! I am merely ensuring the safety of the Pride Lands’ airspace! And your “sphere,” as you call it, constitutes a significant airborne hazard!

Bumble: (To Mufasa) See? Jealousy. Pure, unadulterated…

(Suddenly, a gust of wind blows Bumble's dung ball directly onto Zazu's head, covering him completely.)

Zazu: (Muffled) Good heavens! I’ve been… fertilized!

Bumble: (Trying not to laugh) Looks like the Circle of Life just took a… detour.

Mufasa: (Chuckling) Perhaps, Bumble, you could focus your "fertilizing" efforts on the eastern plains for a while. Zazu, I believe a bath is in order. And Bumble…

(Mufasa leans down, his voice low and serious.)

…if you ever tell anyone about Zazu’s “magnetic antennae” theory, I will personally roll you into a ball.

Bumble: (Gulping) Your secret is safe with me, Your Majesty! Absolutely! (He scurries off, pushing his dung ball with renewed vigour, carefully avoiding Zazu who is frantically trying to wipe himself clean.)

(Mufasa shakes his head, a smile playing on his lips. He watches Bumble go, then turns back to survey his kingdom, the aroma of… well, let's just say "the Circle of Life"… hanging heavy in the air.)

(Fade out.)
