(Opening scene: A bustling Roman marketplace, years after Commodus's death. Lucius Verus, now a brooding young man of 19, moves through the crowd unnoticed, his face hidden beneath a dark hood.)

My name is Lucius Verus. You might remember my father, the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. You definitely remember Maximus Decimus Meridius, the gladiator who avenged him and saved me from the clutches of my uncle, Commodus. He was a hero. My hero. Everyone remembers the hero. No one remembers the boy he saved.

They showered me with praise, called me the “Child Emperor”, the “Son of the Wolf.” Empty titles. All I wanted was my father back, and Maximus. But Maximus found his peace in Elysium, leaving me to navigate the viper pit of Roman politics, a child surrounded by wolves disguised as senators.

Lucius’s aunt, Lucilla (now older, weary), becomes his regent. Though she tries to protect him, the Senate sees him as weak, easily manipulated. Power-hungry senators whisper in Lucius’s ear, poisoning his mind against Lucilla, convincing him she seeks to usurp his throne.

(Flashbacks show Lucius training relentlessly with wooden swords, driven by the need to prove himself strong, to live up to the legend of Maximus. He pushes himself to the breaking point, but the ghost of Maximus's strength only serves to highlight Lucius’s perceived weakness.)

They told me Maximus wouldn't want me to be weak. That he'd want me to be a warrior, an emperor worthy of Rome. So I trained, I fought, I spilled blood, not on the battlefield, but in the training yard, trying to summon a strength I didn’t possess. The more I strived, the more I failed. The shadow of the Gladiator stretched long and dark, eclipsing my own light.

Manipulated by a cunning senator named Cassius, Lucius banishes Lucilla to Sicily, believing he’s secured his power. But Cassius's true intentions are revealed; he desires the throne for himself. He imprisons Lucius, strips him of his title, and throws him into the gladiatorial arena. The very place where Maximus found his glory becomes Lucius’s hell.

(Montage of brutal gladiatorial fights. Lucius, unskilled and broken, suffers defeat after defeat. The crowds that once cheered for him now jeer and bay for his blood. His body becomes a canvas of scars, each a reminder of his failure to live up to his savior’s legacy.)

The roar of the crowd is deafening. They chant “Commodus! Commodus!” confusing me with the man who murdered my father. The irony is a bitter pill. I am no gladiator. I am a broken emperor, a discarded toy, thrown to the lions for their amusement.

(Lucius lies bleeding in the sand, staring up at the unforgiving Roman sky. He whispers Maximus's name, a plea for strength, for guidance, for an end to his suffering.)

Strength and honor. Maximus’s words echo in my mind, hollow now, devoid of meaning. There is no strength here, only pain. No honor, only humiliation. All that remains is the shadow of the eagle, a reminder of the life I was promised, the life I could never have. And the slow, creeping realization that in this arena of despair, even death offers no escape from the shadow of the gladiator.
